Documentation Days

Each documentation takes approximately 35 minutes. There is a small fee per document session, to be collected at the time of the appointment. If you are interested in hosting a Documentation Day, please contact us.

What to Bring

Quilts made in Oregon, quilts brought to Oregon, and quilts of any age, condition, or style - even unfinished tops are welcome. The survey will include quilts made as bed coverings and for display, but will not include wearable art or other fiber arts.

How it Works

The average documentation session takes about 30 to 45 minutes, and involves photographing the quilt, filling out documentation forms, and transcribing all known information about the quilt. Once an appointment has been scheduled, quilt owners additional details are furnished.

Get Started!

Help us preserve Oregon’s quilt heritage by documenting your quilts with the Oregon Quilt Project. For information about getting started, please send us an e-mail.

Documentation Days began in Sisters, Oregon, in April, 2010, when the Oregon Quilt Project launched its survey. Additional documentation days will be scheduled throughout the state over the next several years.

How to Participate

Quilt owners are invited to bring quilts and stories to scheduled documentation days. Appointments will be scheduled in advance of each session. Volunteers are invited to participate in any number of roles, including the quilt examination tables, photography station, welcome and check-out tables, and behind-the-scenes functions.
